Discover the Loggerhead Express, an exciting new addition to Hilton Head Island’s cultural and transportation landscape.

The Loggerhead Express is a newly introduced free transportation service on Hilton Head Island, designed with a creative twist. It was unveiled on July 1, 2025, in Shelter Cove Community Park for all to see. This themed trolley not only provides seasonal public transportation but also doubles as a mobile art and poetry gallery. This free, seasonal trolley isn’t just a convenient way to get around; it’s also a creative sanctuary on wheels. As part of the Breeze Trolley system, it operates daily. Hours are from 1-10 p.m., with hours extended to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The trolley features accessibility ramps, free Wi-Fi, bike racks and comfortable seating.
*Note: No animals (except service animals), beach carts or open strollers.
The Loggerhead Express showcases stunning illustrations of loggerhead sea turtles by local artist Mira Scott. Scott is well known for illustrating the children’s book, Myrtle the Loggerhead Turtle. Inspired by a real-life turtle that has come to Hilton Head for over 60 years, this story tells of Myrtle’s heartfelt yearning to return to the Island

What makes the Loggerhead Express unique?
- Thematic Design: Adorned with stunning illustrations of loggerhead sea turtles by local artist Mira Scott, the trolley is a visual treat.
- Literary Enrichment: Step inside to find poetry by local writers beautifully integrated within the trolley’s interior, engaging both children and adults alike.
- A Conservation Message: The Loggerhead Express combines art, literature, and community to inspire awareness about nature and conservation efforts.
This initiative is a collaboration between the Town of Hilton Head Island’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Island Writers’ Network. It aims to integrate the ideas behind the Hilton Head Poetry Trail into the realm of public transportation. It’s more than just a ride—it’s an experience that combines transportation with community and environmental appreciation.
If you’re on Hilton Head now through Labor Day, hop aboard the Loggerhead Express to explore the Island in a way that’s as enriching as it is convenient.
