The golf courses on Hilton Head Island are arguably some of the most beautifully laid out and designed courses on the east coast.
The Island is a frequent stop for various PGA Tour events, including the popular RBC Heritage. The courses all have unique and different features that make each hole different from the last. Legendary golf course architects like Jack Nicklaus, Clyde Johnston and Pete Dye crafted a few of these courses, and they do not disappoint.
Don’t forget to pack your clubs and take a swing at some of these courses:
George Fazio Course
Palmetto Dunes
(866) 380-1778
If you’re a golfer looking for a true championship challenge like the pros, look no further. This course in the Palmetto Dunes resort is the youngest course to ever earn a spot in Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Best”. The front 9 holes features open tree-lined fairways, but the back 9 is much more severe with tighter fairways and many more hazards. This course, designed by George Fazio himself, should go on any golfer’s bucket list. It’s known for its bunkers, so be sure to watch out for those sandy traps!
Robber’s Row
Port Royal
(843) 681-1760
This course has long been known as the most beautiful out of the three in the Port Royal resort. It has natural beauty all throughout with live oak and magnolia trees. The course is best suited for intermediate golfers, with multiple par-three holes and a few water hazards. It also features a little bit of history as well, with historical markers at some of the tee boxes depicting the significance of the location during the Civil War.
Habour Town Golf Links
Sea Pines
(843) 363-8385
Perhaps one of the most famous courses on the whole island, Harbour Town Golf Links is home to the RBC Heritage inside of Sea Pines. Its holes are a testament to the beauty of the island, providing magnificent views of the lighthouse and the sound. The course is challenging, but it’s design puts an emphasis on strokes rather than strength. The course features many different par-threes and the 18th hole is considered one of the most recognizable in all of golf.
Galleon/Brigantine
Shipyard
(843) 686-8802
The Shipyard resort features three different 9-hole courses. The Galleon/Brigantine boasts towering oak trees that line the fairways. This course is very scenic, with alligators sunning themselves on the banks of the various lakes and ponds. Doglegs on the fairways and bunkers around the green can provide the challenge that golfers love.
