One of the perks about living on a subtropical island is that outdoor festivals are held year round. What may be a piercing cold, snowy March afternoon up north, can be a sunny, warmly lit afternoon here on Hilton Head Island. March is also a significant month on the island for one reason: basketball.
While many only think of Hilton Head as a vacation spot, hoards of people retire here every year to live on the island and enjoy the mild weather. Many of those people come from areas with basketball teams from the big 10 schools such as Ohio State, Iowa and Purdue. Of course, the only real way to celebrate March Madness is outside celebrating with your neighbors while drinking and eating great food.
That is where Wingfest comes into play.
For nineteen years, Wingfest has been one of the biggest events on the island, celebrating March Madness as well as the advent of spring time on Hilton Head Island with live music, screens projecting the big game, and of course, a lot of wings. In fact, over 6000 lbs were served at last years Wingfest.
As with all Island Recreation Association events, there is a Kid Zone every year filled with bounce houses, rock walls, and even a bungee jump. Admission to the kid zone is an additional cost after entering the festival. The entrance fee to the festival itself is $6 and children under 10 attend free of charge.
