Hilton Head Island may be known for its sunny days and sandy beaches, but rainy days shouldn’t put a damper on your vacation. There are plenty of indoor activities to keep your kids entertained while the rain comes down. Here are some of our favorites:
1. Indoor Go Karting and Play Arcade Games:
INDY KARTING

The ultimate indoor entertainment center is at 71 Towne Dr., Bluffton offering Karting, Axe-Throwing, an Arcade, and a lounge. Indy Karting and Family Amusement is the perfect activity for anyone who loves speed, competition, and adrenaline. So if you’re looking for a fun way to spend a rainy day, INDY KARTING is the place for you.
2. Chronic Golf + GAMES
Chronic Games + Golf is a fun place for kids with lots of games and tasty food, suitable for people of all ages. They have high–tech simulators where you can play different sports games like virtual golf, soccer, football, and even zombie dodgeball.
Parents can feel at ease knowing their children are in a safe and friendly environment. They also have a menu that kids love, along with plenty of options for the adults in the group.
3. Visit a Museum:
There are several museums on Hilton Head Island that offer great entertainment for little ones. From art galleries to maritime history, there’s something fun and educational for everyone.
The Sandbox Museum

Experience a thoughtfully tailored museum for children of all ages, up to twelve. Youngest explorers have a dedicated area for safe and unrestricted play, with crawling, sliding, and all-fours adventures! Older children can embark on an imaginative exploration aboard a shrimp boat, discovering the life of a shrimper. Meanwhile, older kids can unleash their creativity in our Art Studio and let their inventiveness flourish in our MakerSpace area.
The Coastal Discovery Museum
With 2000 square feet of indoor exhibits, and 68 acres of outdoor exploration, the Coastal Discovery Museum offers an endless discovery of the Lowcountry. It’s fun for kids and your inner child. You will find lots to share, reflect upon, and talk about — from our exhibits and videos to hands-on elements like our seashell ID table where you can learn all the common shells that are found on our beaches. Learn about local alligators and how you can safely watch them basking on the banks of a lagoon on a warm sunny day. In the very heart of the Discovery House, you’ll find the Kids Zone packed with interactive Lowcountry treasures, info, artifacts, and inhabitants. And the Discovery Lab provides family-friendly educational programs.
4. See a Movie:
Northridge Cinema offers specially priced child tickets for ages 3-12 years. Children 2 and under are free. Whether you’re looking for an action flick or a classic cartoon, there’s something for everyone. If you are on the South End of the Island, locally-owned Park Plaza Cinema offers a cozy, unique boutique experience with in-seat food service. Plus, it’s nice and dry inside!
5. Stop by a Salty Dog T-Shirt Shop

The Salty Dog T-Shirt Factory at 67 Arrow Road is the store where all the magic happens! Kids can see their twelve-color, robotic printing press in action. Printing times may vary, but it’s worth the trip just to see where your Salty Dog T-Shirt’s life begins! While visiting, make sure to say, “hello” to our resident macaws! Red Bird, Green Bean and Bailey might just say, “hello,” back! The Tanger 2 T-shirt Factory also offers a Tie-Dye Station, so if the mood strikes, kids can design and dye a one-of-a-kind memento.
