In February of 2020, Jason Bullock started selling Mokes in Georgia and South Carolina.
“I was buying up inventory at the same time the world was coming apart with COVID,” he says, shaking his head. “It was an uncertain time, but I was actually really surprised by how many people were looking for fun and unique ways to spend their days during the Pandemic.”
First things first, though. What is a Moke? “It’s a fully customizable, 4-seat electric vehicle with a range of 40 miles,” Jason says, “and it can be charged on a standard household outlet.” And how is it different from a golf cart? “With a longer, wider wheel base and a lower center of gravity, it’s much more comfortable and a lot safer to drive. Plus,” he adds, “everyone is inside the vehicle, facing forward with seat belts.” The other big difference? No oil changes or spark plugs to swap out. “Electric motors are so simple,” says Jason. “I have zero maintenance issues.”
The Mokes began to sell immediately.
Sensing that he was onto something, Jason “went on a worldwide search” for other electric vehicles suited for getting around the Lowcountry and beyond. “I was looking for innovative, well-designed and well-built electric machines,” he says. “I chose based on aesthetics and design—I wanted to make sure our offerings were best in class.” So what did he find?
There’s the fat-tired electric moped with a 40-mile range and a top speed of 28mph. “The KAASPEED is absolutely pure in its design, and it’s built of premium components like aerospace aluminum, so you don’t have to worry about rust,” Jason enthuses. “It’s also very modular, so you can just pull a piece off and replace it.” Allowed on roads and requiring only 2.5 hours to completely recharge, the KAASPEED is a perfect alternative for the commuter who wants quiet, eco-friendly, and may be looking to reduce fuel expenditures. And, with a rack available that goes on the hitch of a car, SUV, truck or RV, you can take a scooter or two wherever you go. “It’s also just a really fun way to get around the Island, your neighborhood, downtown, the beach, even the golf course.”
Out on the water, there’s the Radinn electric jet board.
The Radinn is a cross between a jet ski and a surf board. It goes up to 35mph and runs for up to 45 minutes at a time.
“It’s such a simple, well-designed board,” Jason says, “there is no jet board better than a Radinn. But what I like most is that it’s easier to learn and quicker to master than other boards I’ve tried, and it goes all sorts of places that boats can’t go.”
And finally, there’s the ELLWEE, a Swedish, multi-purpose, affordable and emissions-free vehicle that functions like a golf cart but has to be seen to be believed! For now, KAASPEEDs, Radinns and ELLWEEs are all in stock but the Mokes don’t sit on the lot for long. “If you have kids in their late teens, a board, a scooter or a Moke for the family are all really great gift ideas,” says Jason. “We sell nationally, and ship them to people all over the country who may not live near a Moke dealership.” Intrigued?
