Our Hilton Heads Island community has always held a special place in Georgene and Loren Mortimer’s hearts and minds.
In fact, this little island pulled them from the hustle and bustle of a successful life outside of New York City running an award-winning winery to this small town with a lot of heart and a huge love of good wine. Island Winery opened in 2006 and quickly became the actualization of a dream that began many years and generations before. Island locals and visitors alike have made the winery a part of their lives and allowed them to grow from their tasting room to a new location just across the street boasting a quant country vibe with outdoor seating and a park-like setting where you’re welcome to bring your own food and enjoy Island Winery signature wines.
The Island Winery wanted to return the support and encouragement of the community for the past 15+ years.
The Island Winery has made the first in a series of donations to support our island through these unprecedented times.
When asked about the donation, Loren Mortimer shared: “My grandfather, Charles G. Mortimer, started the foundation in 1957, and just like my dad, they’ve supported what was near and dear to their hearts: education and veteran’s needs. The Island has helped us turn our passion into a reality with our local winery. We decided to support what is dear to us: our local community. This donation is a gesture of thanks for the many years of support and many more memories to come.” In these uncertain times, one thing is certain- our island has always pulled together to support one another. Island Winery is committed to aiding in that support and helping lift up their neighbors in this time of need.
The new Island Winery location will continue to grow and progress through these times.
The Winery crew looks forward to welcoming island friends back in for a great glass of wine, sharing their dream of island living and In Vino Veritas.
About Island Winery
For the owners of Island Winery, Loren and Georgene Mortimer, wine is not just their business. It is a labor of love. They both grew up in an Italian American winemaking family. They utilized their background in biology, geology, environmental science, and communications. Georgene and Loren embraced their lifelong love of wine. They honed their winemaking skills and opened Westfall Winery in New Jersey in the year 2000.
After great success, they dreamed of opening a second winery location on their beloved island home away from home, Hilton Head Island. This dream became a reality in 2006 and Island Winery was born. The pair are now full-time island residents and love bringing good wine to good people.
