July 26-28 and August 2-4: The Southeastern Summer Theatre Institute continues its seventeenth season with Gypsy. It’s a compelling story of ambition, motherhood and the price of fame, seen through the eyes of the ultimate show business mother, Rose, and her daughters June and Louise. Featuring iconic numbers like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” and “Let Me Entertain You,” Gypsy is lauded for its emotional depth, complex characters, and Sondheim’s clever lyrics. This musical not only captures the struggles and successes of its characters but also serves as a timeless exploration of the human spirit’s resilience. Evening performances take place at 7:30 p.m. on July 26-27 and August 2-3; matinee performances at 1 p.m. on July 28 and August 4. All performances are at the Hilton Head High School, 26 School Rd.
