August 15: Get the kids outside to learn about the importance of clean water! For the fourth year, The Outside Foundation will host the Keep the Broad Creek Clean Festival in Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina. The event schedule includes a kayak-based clean-up from 3-5 p.m., festival from 4-7 p.m. with live musical performances by Jevon Daly at 4 p.m. and Shannon Tanner at 7 p.m. The festival will feature exhibits, activities, crafts, and demonstrations presented by local non-profits and agencies. A highlight of the 2019 festival will be jellyfish lantern making with the Town of Hilton Head Office of Cultural Affairs. Additional exhibitors include The Coastal Conservation League, i2 Recycle, the Mermaid of Hilton Head, Turtle Trackers, the Coastal Discovery Museum, The Port Royal Sound Foundation, Spartina Dolphin & Turtle Stranding Response, the Beaufort Conservation District, Waddell Mariculture Center, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Lowcountry Master Naturalists and Carolina Clear. All events and activities are free and open to the public and every attendee gets an entry into a raffle for fun prizes.
Kayak Reservations: Outside Hilton Head will provide free kayak rentals to clean-up participants. Reservations are required, call (843) 686-6996. Free and open to the public.
