Top 10 Reasons to Attend the Hilton Head International Piano Competition in March!
1. It’s tough to get into. Only 1 in 10 who applied made the cut.
Competitors were selected by three eminent professors of piano on the basis of video auditions from a strong field of 110 applicants. It took them more than 6 weeks to get the job done.
2. These kids can really play.
All have already won prizes at other top competitions, including the Cliburn Junior.
3. It’s a veritable United Nations.
Competitors come from six different countries.
4. We guarantee you will hear many of your favorite composers.
In the solo rounds, competitors must play at least one piece from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras with a post-1950 composition thrown in for good measure. Bach, Beethoven or Brahms anyone?
5. Prefer to hear the piano with full Orchestra?
If you come to the Finals, you will hear the five finalists play a movement of a well-known concerto with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, and rock star John Morris Russell at the podium.
6. The seats are really comfortable.
Solo rounds (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) are held at Central Church on the island, which was originally a night club. Seriously. Last year’s attendees raved about the seats.
7. No matter how busy you are, you should be able to attend.
There are week-day performances in the morning, afternoon and evening. The finals are on a Saturday night—perfect to bring a date!
8. The price cannot be beat.
Solo rounds are the best value for live music performance on HHI. $10 will buy you come-and-go privileges for an entire day. Finals tickets start at only $25.
9. All the cool people will be there.
The HHIPC attracts lots of out-of-towners. Last year we had attendees from 27 states.
