Enjoy the Beach with a Wheelchair Ease at Hilton Head Island!

The Town of Hilton Head Island commits itself to a beautiful beach accessible to everyone. With their newly enhanced accessibility features, everyone can enjoy a day by the ocean.
Beach Wheelchair Program
The beach wheelchair program offers an easy way for people with disabilities to access the beach. This free service provides mobility-challenged residents and visitors with the means to reach the sand and sea.
How it Works:
- Availability: Three wheelchairs are available at Islanders Beach Park in Folly Field and three at Coligny Beach Park.
- Reservation: Wheelchairs can be reserved through the Town’s website. They require a $25 refundable deposit via credit card.
- Access: Upon reservation, you’ll receive a code to unlock the wheelchair at the specified beach park. Remember to lock it after use.
- Notice: Reservations must be made at least three days in advance.
Beach Matting
All public beach parks and access points provide beach matting with a sturdy, non-slip surface. This feature makes it easier for wheelchairs, pedestrians, strollers, beach wagons, and bikes to traverse the sand.
The matting extends to the hard sand at the high tide line, enhancing mobility up and down the beach.
Overlook Pavilion at Islanders Beach Park
The newly constructed pavilion at Islanders Beach Park offers a comfortable spot for visitors with disabilities or special needs to enjoy the beach. Located next to the existing boardwalk at 94 Folly Field Road, the pavilion includes:
- A wide entryway to accommodate wheelchairs
- Built-in benches for seating
While anyone can use the pavilion, it is specifically designed for those with disabilities to provide an inclusive beach experience.
Come and experience the accessibility features at Hilton Head Island’s beaches, and enjoy the ocean with ease!
