Getting There
Bluffton is just a short drive from Hilton Head Island, making it an easy and convenient day trip. Simply head west on US-278, over the bridges and in about 20 minutes, you’ll find yourself in the heart of Bluffton.

The Squat ‘n’ Gobble is one of Bluffton’s most-known restaurants. Everyone you talk to knows about their great food and kitschy sign. It’s great diner fare that goes straight off of the grill onto your plate.
Morning in Old Town Bluffton
After breakfast, drive and park your car at the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park. There’s ample parking and restrooms. It’s a perfect home base to begin and end your visit. Should you choose to walk our day trip itinerary, this spot will keep you in a half-mile radius.

Mid-Morning at the May River

Visit the Church of the Cross: One of Bluffton’s most iconic landmarks, the Church of the Cross, sits on the banks of the May River and Calhoun St. This beautiful structure dates back to 1857 and offers stunning views of the river.
Antebellum Architecture along Calhoun

Old Town’s Calhoun St. showcases a diverse range of historic homes, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This easy stroll takes you by the Allen-Lockwood House, Seven Oaks, Graves House and the Fripp-Lowden House. Read the placards and appreciate these structures of bygone days.

Return to the Bluffton Oyster Factory Park: Take your afters (alcohol is permitted near the pavilion) back to your home base and enjoy the sunset over the May River at the Oyster Factory Park. The peaceful surroundings and the shimmering river make for a perfect end to your day trip.
