Island Winery Southern PassionIsland Winery, which is owned by Loren and Georgene Mortimer, opened in 2006 on Hilton Head Island. In addition to handcrafted wines are produced locally on the Island, Loren and Georgene select the finest grapes from the world’s best wine regions for some wines and use local grapes and other fruits for their popular line of Low Country Specialty wines. Their bright colored labels showcase local artists and Lowcountry scenes.

“When we thought about how we can create a unique line of wines, our inspiration was to try to capture all that is unique about the Low Country,” said Georgene. “Wines like our Peach on the Beach and Blueberry wines incorporate local fruits. Our Southern Passion, which is a unique sangria recipe, is a refreshing way to wash down slow cooked BBQ and our Margarita Wine has zesty lime flavors, so it tastes great with local seafood. All of our Low Country specialty wines are crisp and refreshing and meant to be served cold. They were definitely crafted keeping in mind our, sometimes oppressive, heat that defines our Low Country summers.”

The tasting room at Island Winery is staffed with friendly, knowledgeable wine lovers who enjoy answering questions by curious wine tasters and tourists. They offer free wine tastings and also serve wine by the glass or bottle, which can be enjoyed in their barrel room.
