Island Facts

Our Island Chamber of Commerce gets some strange phone calls from potential Visitors to our Island. This might be a good starting place for Island Facts:

1. We do have a bridge from the mainland to the Island. You do not have to come across in a boat.

2. We do have Super Markets. You do not have to bring your own food. Believe it or not, we even have a Indoor Shopping Mall !

3. We do have electricity.

4. We do have telephones.

5. We do have Hotels and Motels, and we even have Cable TV.

6. We do have 12 miles of beautiful renourished Atlantic Ocean Beaches with lots of public access areas.

7. We do have 23 on-island golf courses, and 18 more nearby off-island golf courses for you to play.

8. We do have 205 on-island tennis courts for you to play.

9. And, as you know, we do have a Hilton Head Island World Wide Web Site on the Internet.

The Island was Incorporated into the Town of Hilton Head Island in 1983.

The $10,000,000 Self Family Arts Center opened in March, 1996, in the center of Hilton Head Island. The Center combines the latest facilities for both visual and performing arts. The 44,000 square foot facility includes the 350 seat Elizabeth Wallace Theater for major dramas, comedies and musicals, as well as the 125 seat Studio Theater for workshop productions. In addition, the facility includes the Walter Greer Art Gallery, with 2,300 square feet of exhibit space, meeting and administrative space and a fine arts studio-classroom.

In October 2002, the Center was renamed to the "Arts Center of Coastal Carolina."
