Christmas on the Coast: Holiday Happenings on Hilton Head Island

Celebrating Christmas on Hilton Head Island this year? There are more than a few exciting events and fun festivals on the Island, so many that it might be hard to choose which to go to. But no worries! Just take a look through our round-up of family fun entertainment to get in the spirit! With so many places and people to see this holiday season, be sure to make space in your calendar for these great holiday happenings on Hilton Head Island.

1. Hilton Head Preparatory School’s Festival of Trees

Celebrate the season with a creative approach: view trees of various sizes and colors of various themes decorated by locals. Falling in love with a favorite one? You can purchase it and all proceeds benefit the tuition assistance program for the school! Performances by the school and other locals as well as visits from Santa are to be expected.

2. Harbour Town Lights Official Tree Lighting

On the night of the 25tth, spend your evening watching Harbour Town’s 30-foot Christmas tree come to life at 7:30 p.m., with a festive Gregg Russell concert to follow! From November 25 through January 1, make sure to spend stroll the lovely pathways and see the lights twinkling along the water at one of Hilton Head Island’s most famous attractions: the Harbour Town Lighthouse.

3. The Shops at Sea Pines Center’s Annual Shopportunity

On Small Business Saturday, get out and support the local shops at the Sea Pines Center from 1-5 p.m., with hot chocolate and cider, Christmas cookies and live music. This special seasonal shopping event will feature ornaments made from the debris left by Hurricane Matthew, not to mention kids can stop and get a picture with Santa!

4. Community Christmas Tree Lighting & Holly Day Art Market

Come out to the Arts Center and enjoy an old-fashion Yuletide celebration with caroling, crafts, treats and musical performance from the cast of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas!” With holiday fun for kids and adults alike, join in on this Christmas community celebration full of food, fun and festivity!

5. Christmas at South Beach

Visit the notorious South Beach this Christmas season to view the hundreds of twinkling lights that have taken over the area. Bring out the whole family to visit Santa, who will arrive on November 27 at the South Beach Inn and make sure to get your free photo with Mr. Claus any Friday or Saturday from 3-7 p.m., now until Christmas!

6. Tanger Outlets’ Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration

On the first day of December, enjoy festive feelings at Tanger Outlets 2 in Bluffton. From 5:30-7:30 p.m. watch their big tree light up the atmosphere and enjoy some time with Santa, too! With holiday performances by local schools, take some time with the family to enjoy the First of December.

7. Main Street Village’s Annual Holiday Open House Jingle Fest

If you would rather stay island-side on December 1st, head over to Main Street Village where Christmas music will be played, courtesy of 104.9 The Surf, while you stroll through the lit-up village. The festivities are from 5-8 p.m. with free drinks and food tastings to make the evening better!

8. Winter Wonderland Festival

Make your Friday evening extra fun with an exciting festival in the park! Bring the family for hayrides, carnival games, a petting zoo, a children’s parade and a visit from the famous couple themselves: Mr. & Mrs. Claus. From 4-8 p.m., enjoy the festival and, afterwards, head down “Dove Street” for a fabulous display of lights!

From 6-9 p.m. on second day of December, take a spin around this festive culinary event where more than 35 restaurants have tastings for you and yours truly! With Southern Living’s contributing editor being present, as well as a frenzy of delicious dishes and a silent auction, this event can’t be missed!

10. Gingerbread House Decorating Party

Head over to Presbyterian Church for a family-fun festive decorating party! From 10 a.m.- noon, there will be Christmas music, refreshments and memories created for times to come. Whether your children makes a gingerbread castle fit for a Disney princess or a replica of your home, there’s a promise of happiness and laughter to fill the season!

11. Outdoor Christmas Movies in Harbour Town

Join in each Saturday at 7 p.m. until Christmas at the Liberty Oak to enjoy classic Christmas movies and roast marshmallows! The line-up includes family favorites: “Miracle on 34th Street,” “Polar Express” and “A Christmas Story.” Make sure to bring a donation of canned food for the Deep Well Project for those in need this season!

12. Hilton Head Heroes Christmas Open House

From 2-4 p.m. on the first Sunday of December, tour the holiday decorated Hero House where yummy Christmas desserts can be found! 13. Official Public Lighting Ceremony for the Dove Street Festival of Lights

Begin your festivities every night with a walk-through, or drive-through, of the Dove Street Festival of Lights where different entertainment each evening at Shelter Cove Towne Centre! With over 70,000 lights, “falling snow,” shopping and dining, this festive atmosphere is fun and jolly for the whole family. Make sure to visit on the night of the 6th as the Public Lighting Ceremony begins at 6 p.m. with a special visit from Santa!

14. Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas”

Looking for something theatrical for this holiday season? Search no longer, as Irving Berlin’s classic tale “White Christmas” comes to life on stage at the Arts Center. Show times at 8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturdays allows for a festive evening play with friends and family. Listen to the holiday music in this musical adaption of love, drama and fun scores sure to stick in your head for the rest of the night!

15. Jingle Jingle Run

Start your Christmas Eve morning off right with a healthy and fun walk & run around Main Street and the hospital campus. This race is seasonally-themed and promises hot cider, music and door prizes following the 5K! Though the race begins at 9 a.m., make sure to arrive early to be one of the lucky 500 to receive a festive long-sleeve, jingle bells and a candy cane!

16. Holiday Fun in Harbour Town

Though Christmas may be yesterday’s news, the holiday season isn’t over quite yet. Head over out to that famous Liberty Oak for more classic holiday movies and marshmallows with added crafts, games and train rides from 4-8 p.m.! The kids are sure to love the festive train as it rides around the Harbour Town area!
