Birdie James is a unique and aesthetically pleasing store has chartered its own waters with their “authentic” flair.
With a standout store in-between the two Belks—the stores that were once the only place for shopping at the Shelter Cove Towne Centre—Michelle Taylor brought her dream to life with Birdie James. The support from the community has allowed her vision to take hold on the Island as she continues to tailor her store to the stylish Hilton Head women. She doesn’t believe in compromising occasions and fashion, and draws inspiration from the fashionable lady who likes to stay on trend, but is a mother who has little children and no extra time for it.
Taylor has a shared passion for fashion with the greater population but her background helps differentiate and achieve better goals. As a mental health professional, Taylor learned to communicate in a way that would make shoppers feel comfortable.
“You look good for you and you’ll be ready to face the world,” Taylor conveyed, speaking of her beliefs in the promotion of confidence and the building-up of women. She understands being comfortable in ones’ own skin and, to take it to heart, portrays authenticity.
“Authentic Chic”—the tagline of Birdie James— “is a way of life: a lifestyle,” Taylor elaborated.
Birdie James, uniquely named from Taylor’s husband’s nickname for her, is a boutique like no other. The shop strives to be the go-to shop for the middle-aged woman—without the sacrifice of great fashion.
“I purchase collections with three generations in mind: grandmothers, their daughters and their daughters’ daughters,” she explained.
From the outside, the shop appears ageless with its array of color schemes and a myriad of textures and prints. Uniquely to her store, Taylor selects brands unknown to the Island that are both beautiful and fresh. You can browse from cool collections such as Liberty Garden (which benefits Doctors Without Borders), Ripley Rader (known for their flowing floral prints) and her own special brand, Birdie James Collection. These brands create beauty without pain and welcome a comfortable lifestyle. Adorned with sofas and plush carpets, Taylor’s boutique create the sense of home while using the clothes as the backdrop.
“I would like to see social gatherings instore,” Taylor explained.
She looks forward to opening her doors and fostering the open community. She believes in cultivating the community with the availability of social events. For those looking for a fun, new and hip way to celebrate an event, speak with Taylor!
